Before You Leave

Come face to face with a giant Galapagos tortoise. Snorkel around San Cristobal Island. Watch the sun set from the deck of your motor yacht. Your Galapagos vacation is just around the corner. Before you leave, be sure to check this list of important Galapagos travel tips.

Galapagos Travel Tips
  • Purchase necessary travel insurance.
  • Apply for a passport (if necessary) at least two months prior to departure.
  • If you already have a passport, make sure that it will be valid for at least six months beyond your anticipated return date. If it will expire within this time, you MUST renew your passport.
  • Try to make airline reservations to Quito, Ecuador at least two months prior to your departure.
  • Leave a copy of your itinerary and a list of emergency phone numbers with a friend or relative.
  • Carry a copy of your plane ticket and passport and a spare passport photo in a separate place (i.e. your partner’s luggage). If either is lost, it will be much easier to replace if you have a copy.
  • Make arrangements for your mail and/or newspaper to be picked up or temporarily stopped while you are away.
  • Put luggage tags on all baggage.
  • VERY IMPORTANT: Confirm airline reservations 72 to 48 hours prior to departure, and check with the airline on the day of departure for any schedule changes.
  • Pack only what you need. Find packing tips.
