Galapagos Cruises
Planning a trip to the Galapagos? A variety of Galapagos Island cruises are available. Cruises vary depending on the length of your stay, tour operator, level of accommodation and Galapagos travel plans, but they typically range from small, intimate motor yacht or sailboat tours to large ship expeditions.

Cruise Options
Motor yacht cruises are the most common type of Galapagos Island cruise. Motor yachts range from around 60 feet to 130 feet in length. The cabins are generally more spacious than those found on sailboats, and they often have more deck space and larger common areas. Most travelers prefer the small-group privacy of these Galapagos Island cruises. Typically consisting of 8-20 passengers, they offer intimate encounters with wildlife and greater flexibility.

Sailboats are another intimate Galapagos Island cruise option. They typically range from 60 feet to 120 feet in length and generally have smaller cabins and common areas than motor yachts. While the excitement of sailing through the Galapagos lures many travelers to this option, tight travel schedules often limit actual time spent sailing.

Large ship cruises typically carry 40 to 100 passengers and offer larger cabins and luxury amenities. While some travelers prefer them, shore landings often are more crowded, and there are few opportunities for intimate wildlife experiences.

Level of Accommodation
After you’ve decided on a cruise, you can choose the level of accommodation, typically first class, superior, tourist or economy. Options vary depending on the tour operator you select, as does the size, comfort and cleanliness of the cabins and common areas, food, and experience of the on-board naturalist guides.

Itineraries
Cruise itineraries vary. The most common cruise lasts eight days and seven nights, but longer (11 to 14 days) and shorter (four to five days) options are available. For most travelers, an eight-day/seven-night cruise provides ample time to experience all the Galapagos have to offer.

Tour Operators
Selecting a tour operator that shares your Galapagos travel philosophy is one of the most important aspects of planning your trip. To narrow your search, think about what you hope to get out of your adventure and then find a reliable tour operator that shares your values and can meet your needs.
